I want to talk to you about Corky, a killer whale that has been in captivity for half a century, being part of a show at “SeaWorld” in San Diego.
She was captured in 1969, taken away from everything she knew in her natural life in the ocean. She was pregnant several times but none of her breeding survived more than 7 days.
My life as an artist has allowed me to travel around the world, while orcas in captivity give shows for the audience but they can’t leave a small tank and they’re forced to perform in exchange for food.
In their natural life, orcas establish complex bonds, they help each other looking for food and travel up to 140 miles across the ocean in one day.
